Database maintenance sucks

Here at the county, we back up a lot of data. A lot of data. It's one of my principle jobs, in fact; some days, if things don't go smoothly, it's my only job. We take the data security very seriously here, and so far it's paid off. On those occasions when something goes horrifically wrong (and they've been fairly rare), we've always been able to get things back in order in fairly short order.
The backup software uses a pretty complex database to keep track of everything. I try to keep everything in good working order, but things still get fouled up occasionally; this thing is frelling huge. Corrective maintenance on the database is a not-insignificant expenditure of time.
Imagine, then, my horror at discovering not one, but three, hideously corrupted databases on our various servers. I'm ready to scoop out my own eyes as I wait for these things to repair.
I'm not a happy camper at the moment, as you might be able to guess.
