I'm a major Star Trek geek, too
In case you weren't in the loop on that one. Here are a couple of sample CGI effects shots for the upcoming remastering of the original Star Trek, to give the original series the same kinds of state-of-the-art effects that the modern shows have. I'm one of those who's all for this, though there's a great deal of controversy about it in the fan community.

I'm looking forward to it as an example of how the new Trek movie may look...
Hum... not bad. As long as they don't Star Wars it, it should be fine :)
They've already said they're not trying to change the story, just update the effects. I've got the entire run on DVD, and will gladly acquire the updates if they don't, in fact, jack it up.
I will be comparing the remastered eps to the originals to see what they do, though.
I'll keep an eye out... would be interesting to see what they end up doing.
