In light of the recent death of Mike Ford, I've been digging about in the archives. Something that changed, and saved, Mike's life for a time was a kidney transplant he received several years ago. He was a firm believer in organ donation, for obvious reasons. I am, too, and have been for a number of years. So I went back in the dusty nether-regions of my blog and dug out this post, which bears repeating right about now.
From October 29, 2004:
I've been an organ donor for years and years, since my senior year in high school mumble years ago. But I haven't really kept up with things, making sure that the message gets out, that sort of thing. Then I get an email from the leading organ donor network about the revamp of their website, and I figure I should change my level of activity on the issue a little bit.
So I'd like to take a moment of your blog-reading time to point you to the organization I'm registered through, the Living Bank, and encourage you to read a few things and become an organ donor yourself. If you decide to register as a donor, it's also important to let your family know of your decision. Your decision doesn't do anybody any good if nobody knows about it.
Thanks for your time and attention on this one, folks.
