It's a girl!!

NOTE: Originally posted on 7 December 2005

Brontë Elizabeth Goodman was born at 1:05 PM on 7 December 2005 at Northwest Texas Hospital in Amarillo, TX. She was 18.5" long, and weighed in at 5 lb 6 oz. Mother and daughter are doing fine; Daddy, on the other hand, is kind of a nervous wreck. :)
She was born at 34 weeks and 3 days, so she was somewhat premature; given that, her size at birth was kind of impressive to me. Here are a few pics; one shouldn't be alarmed at the tubes and suchlike, since they're standard precautionary measures for preemies, especially those born by Caesarean. They're providing extra oxygen (though by this morning, she was breathing room air and still getting good blood oxygen levels, so Tiff and I are quite happy), and helping keep gas from gathering in her tummy. You can click on the pics to get a larger image, if you choose to do so.

The first family photo. You can't really see me very well, but that's Brontë and my very emotional wife. Posted by Picasa

These are her footprints; they're actually made on the shirt I was wearing as Tiff was giving birth. Posted by Picasa

Here she is at about 10 hours old; the oxygen tubes in her nose would be out by 4 AM, about 5 or 6 hours later. Posted by Picasa

Here she is at 4:30 this morning, about 15 hours old. Her oxygen tube had just been removed. She opens both eyes and looks around, but she's not wild about Daddy's flash on his camera. Posted by Picasa

The neonatal ICU staff made this very cute name card for her. Posted by Picasa

The NICU staff also made this very cute name card for her, and were contemplating even more when we left this morning. Posted by Picasa
