Family stuff

Our daughter is at a fun stage, linguistically (as well as other ways). Tiffany's been telling some of the niftier vocabulary lessons we've been getting lately. I'm here to talk about other things.

Our evening ritual at Casa Goodman goes something like this. We give Brontë a cup of milk, and then I sit down in the rocker with her on my lap and I read her a book or two (she's quite fond of some of Dr. Seuss' works), and then a few stories from a toddler's edition of the Bible.  ("Daddy, Bibles!" she tells me.)

Tiffany and I then carry her to her bed, say our prayers, and then we tell her we love her, say "Night night", and close her door on the way out.

This past weekend, after we'd gotten Brontë up, Tiff and I were still laying in bed since we really didn't have much of anywhere to be. She was in there with us, since we usually lie in bed and play on the weekends, teaching her to count or her alphabet or what have you. She got out of bed, walked to the door, and said, "Nye nye Mommy Daddy!" and closed the door.

We looked at each other and then called her back. She opened the door, asking "What?"  We told her that we were up, then she says again, "Nye nye, Mommy, Daddy!" and closed the door again. At this point, Tiff's gotten up and turned on the light. We call Brontë back, and talk to her some more. She talks with us, and then she starts to close the door again. Noticing the light being on, she stops and says, with her hands clasped almost as if in prayer, "Light? Peas?" So Tiffany turned off the light, and then our child repeated her "Nye nye" ritual.

We're pretty sure this might have gone on for a while longer if we hadn't actually gotten up and eaten and gone about our daily business. We thought it was cute, though.
