Well, after a long absence, I've finally gotten around to getting my laptop looked at, and now it's back home, safe and sound and running pretty much as well as it ever has. For a long time, it had been having fits, overheating and shutting off abruptly without warning, and generally carrying on cranky.
Well, after a visit to the shop where it didn't misbehave at all and all the tech did was blow out the fans and plug it in, it's running fine. No heat problem, no abrupt shutdowns. Nada.
This makes me quite happy.
I can now once again sit in the living room and putter around on the computer and stay in the presence of my lovely wife. Tonight, I'm doing it to the accompaniment of a BBC production of Jane Austen's Persuasion, which I'm enjoying very much. It's a part of her Valentine's Day gift (part of a 6-disc box set of Jane Austen adaptations put out by the BBC).
There's really not been a lot going on in my life of late, so I haven't blogged for a while. The plan for getting out of debt is proceeding quite well, the family seems to be doing quite well (though the baby seems to have the beginnings of a cold, and is a bit fussy at the moment ).
I'm going to sign off for the moment. My typing isn't what it could be, for one thing (I've had to fix typos every third word or so), and for another the huge selection of Windows Updates that I've had to download since having the thing offline for so long has finally run its course and it's almost time to reboot.
I'll be back.
