We spent almost 2 hours at the doctors. Lots and lots of very sick babies got to skip right over my bouncy, huggy, running, giggly, spinning hyper bundle of joy and I couldn't blame them a bit. I went in to the doctors office after waiting in the atrium to cancel her appointment...because obviously this kid wasn't at all sick. They wouldn't let me. I was trapped. She didn't have a fever. I felt silly for wasting their time when there was ALL these really sick kids. The doctor listened to her chest and back (sounds good), she looked at her mouth (nice teeth), and then her ears.
She jotted something down, and I waited to hear that my little faker was fine...She wasn't! She DID have an ear infection. "WHAT? You're kidding!" "Nope, you'll need to give her antibiotics 2 times a day." "But she doesn't act sick." "She's three. They are crazy like that." Is it wrong to be suddenly happy that you are not a nut job mom and your kid really is sick this time? She tells me this or that hurts and I take her to the doctor thinking, "The one time I don't take her she really will be sick." Being a parent is hard. You don't want to turn them into hypochondriacs but you want them to have appropriate health care. She doesn't complain too often so that is good, keeps others from knowing how loony I really am.

You did good, Mommy
Yay! Not enough people listen to their kids. When I was 5 I sat shivering under a blanket in the living room for 2 days and no one believed I was sick. Then they took my temperature: 104. I had pneumonia and had to live in a hospital tent for 6 weeks.
