The vintage years for my wardrobe will 1940 to very early 80's. Only the most feminine and/or folkloric need apply. No big shouldered 80's number or weird neon pop stuff from the '80's. In the '80's I am allowing Gunne Sax inspired dresses and shirts and skirts.
Same with the '70's. Disco wear go away, polyester Double knit get thee far. Hippie wear? Well if it is clean and beautifully made, Yey! If it is grungy, slacker-y and gross? Oh! No, thanks. The other years are pretty much free and easy, Thank goodness.
